Priest rescues 12-year-old rape victim in Ujjain; Disturbing CCTV out

A horrifying incident shocks India on Thursday after visuals appeared of the 12-year-old rape victim in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The girl appears in a helpless condition begging for help door-to-door while locals ignore any help.

A CCTV video also surfaced capturing the distressing incident. It reveals a wounded, partially unclothed girl desperately seeking aid from one residence to another, yet her pleas go unanswered. This has ignited a wave of indignation among the public. The footage depicts a man shooing her away when she approaches a house, and it is only upon reaching a nearby ashram that she finally receives assistance.

Thanks to a priest, Acharya Rahul Sharma from Dandi Gurukul Ashram who came to help the girl and rescued her. He informed the media that the girl was in a very bad situation when he found her helpless.

The priest recounted that the girl attempted to communicate with him, but her fear made it difficult for him to comprehend her words. He says, “When I saw the girl, she was in a frightening situation in a half-naked condition. I immediately covered her with my clothes and called the police. I made repeated calls but the police came after 30 mins. The girl was able to speak something but it was difficult to understand her language. We also assured her that she is safe and she should not be afraid of anyone here.”

Accused Arrested in Ujjain

In the meantime, the accused Bharat Soni has been arrested by the Madhya Pradesh police and taken to a hospital after he fell down in an effort to escape police custody after he was arrested. Videos on social media sites show him lying in the hospital bed with several policemen around him.

The CCTV footage that shocked the country captured the girl going door-to-door and asking for help. However, it is seen that nobody came forward to help her and this incident caused a massive outrage among activists and political parties in the country.

According to media reports, a case of sexual assault has been formally lodged in Ujjain, invoking the rigorous provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
