Two Indian army officers and a policeman killed in a terrorist encounter in Kashmir on Wednesday.

A tragic incident unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district as a Colonel, a Major from the Rashtriya Rifles, and a Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police lost their lives in a confrontation with terrorists. Two terrorists were also killed in the encounter. Till the publication of this news, the operation was still going on.

The fallen heroes have been identified as Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Aashish Dhonchak, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Himanyun Muzamil Bhat. Colonel Manpreet Singh held the position of commanding officer for the 19 Rashtriya Rifles (19 RR) unit.

Within the past 24 hours, this marks the second encounter in the region. Previously, one army soldier lost his life in the line of duty, and three security forces personnel sustained injuries in a fierce clash with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, as reported by the police.

The Rashtriya Rifles, an integral counter-insurgency force, operates actively in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite intense opposition from terrorists in the Kokernag area’s dense forests, the body of the police officer has been successfully recovered.

In response to this situation, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, the Commander of the Army’s 15 Corps, and Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbag Singh swiftly arrived at the scene to oversee the ongoing operation and the dignified evacuation of the deceased.

The army has swiftly deployed Cheetah helicopters for surveillance and evacuation efforts at the encounter site.

The terrorist attacks in Kashmir are a serious threat to peace and security in the region. They also pose a challenge to the efforts of the Indian government to bring peace to Kashmir. The government needs to take strong measures to prevent further attacks and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
