Instant messaging app, Whatsapp has launched a new feature called Channels in India. You can get information and relevant updates directly in your WhatsApp account by following the channels of people and organisations that interest you. Updates like text, links to information, photos, or videos will be available from these channels to subscribers.

Updates appear in a separate tab of Whatsapp, away from your personal chats and calls. While some features might feel familiar to WhatsApp chats, channel updates are a one-way broadcast rather than a conversation. Followers can’t reply directly to updates or send messages to channel admins. Instead, they can show their interest in a channel’s content by voting on polls or adding emoji reactions to channel updates.

People viewing a channel, even other followers, can’t see who else is following a channel, and your profile information and interactions with channel content (like emoji reactions or poll votes) aren’t visible to them. They can’t see your name, phone number, or profile picture.

Channel admins may see your profile photo next to emoji reactions or poll votes, depending on your privacy settings. Admins can’t see your full phone number or profile name unless they have you saved as a contact.

Channels are a new way for businesses, organizations, and other groups to share information with a large audience. They are similar to Telegram channels but with some additional features, such as the ability to restrict who can join the channel and to moderate the content that is posted.

To create a WhatsApp Channel, you need to have a WhatsApp Business account. Once you have created a Business account, you can go to the “Channels” tab and create a new channel. You can then add members to the channel and start posting content.

WhatsApp Channels can be used for a variety of purposes, such as:

  • Sharing news and updates from a business or organization
  • Conducting training or educational sessions
  • Hosting live events
  • Promoting products or services
  • Building a community around a shared interest

WhatsApp Channels are a powerful new tool that can be used to communicate with a large audience. They are a great way to share information, build relationships, and grow your business.

Here are some of the key features of WhatsApp Channels:

  • One-to-many communication: Channels allow you to send messages to a large audience, without having to add each person individually.
  • Group moderation: Channel admins can control who can join the channel and what content can be posted.
  • Channel statistics: Channel admins can see how many people have joined the channel and how many messages have been sent.
  • Channel security: Channels are protected by end-to-end encryption, so your messages are safe from prying eyes.

WhatsApp Channels are a great way to connect with a large audience and share information in a secure and organised way.
