Siraj makes history as India win 8th Asia Cup

India defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final of the Asia Cup on Sunday to win their 8th title. India bowled out Sri Lanka for just 50 runs, the lowest ODI team total against India, and then chased down the target in just 6.1 overs without losing a wicket.

Mohammed Siraj was the star of the show for India in the Asia Cup final, taking 6 for 21 in 7 overs. He was ably supported by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who took 2 for 12 in 5 overs.

Kishan and Gill Batting in Asia Cup

Chasing the target, Opening for India, Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill played a mature game and scored 23 and 27 runs respectively on 18 and 19 balls to help India easily chase the target of 50 runs set by the Sri Lankan team. They remained not out while chasing helping India win their eighth title.

This was India’s first major title under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, and it was a fitting way for them to end a successful tournament. India had topped the group stage and then won both of their Super Four matches before beating Sri Lanka in the final.

Siraj’s Asia Cup Bowling Spell

He displayed one of the most devastating bowling spells in recent times. He bowled with pace, accuracy, and swing, and gave no room to Sri Lankan batsmen to score. He started his spell by removing Pathum Nissanka and Danushka Gunathilaka in quick succession. He then bowled Charith Asalanka and Kusal Mendis to leave Sri Lanka reeling at 4 for 21.

In his second spell, he picked up two more wickets to complete his six-wicket haul. He dismissed Dasun Shanaka and Maheesh Theekshana to bowl Sri Lanka out for just 50 runs. Siraj’s bowling figures of 6 for 21 in 7 overs are the fourth-best figures by an Indian bowler in ODI history. He is also the first Indian bowler to take four wickets in an over in an ODI final.

Remember for a long time

Fast bowler Siraj won the player of the match by displaying a masterclass performance. He used his pace and swing to great effect, and he was able to exploit the conditions perfectly. Disciplined in his bowling, Siraj did not give away any easy runs. It was a performance that will be remembered for a long time to come.

Kuldeep Yadav was another bowler who impressed with his performance throughout the tournament. He won the Man of the Series title.
