India gears up for Paris Summer Olympics 2024
Preparation for International events including the Olympics is an ongoing and continuous process. The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, National Sports Federations (NSFs), including the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), and Sports Authority of India (SAI) are working in close coordination to provide the best facilities, training, equipment support, wholesome nutritious diet required for preparation of the Indian teams and sportspersons for the forthcoming international sports events, including the Olympics.

India Team in Paris
Medal events, involving 112 participants across 16 sports, start on July 25 for India in the Paris 2024 Olympics and will go on for the next 16 days.
The biggest contingent is going to be from athletics, with a team of 29 representing the country, including Neeraj Chopra, amongst others, in 16 medal events.
The 21-member shooting contingent is India’s second-largest at Paris 2024 and the largest ever from the country to any Games, surpassing the 15 who had participated in Tokyo 2020.
Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai were part of a contingent of athletes set to represent India in archery events at Paris 2024. Archers participating in the individual ranking rounds at Les Invalides on July 25 will be the first Indian contingent in action, a day before the official Opening Ceremony.
It will be in the mixed team 10m air rifle medal matches scheduled for July 27 at the National Shooting Center in Châteauroux that India will get their first medal opportunity at Paris 2024. In the line-up for this competition will be teams formed by Sandeep Singh and Elavenil Valarivan, and Arjun Babuta and Ramita Jindal. Manu Bhaker will feature in two individual pistol events apart from the 10m air pistol mixed team.
Neeraj Chopra will defend his title in the men’s javelin throw with qualifiers slated for August 6 and finals scheduled on August 8.
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu will be in action in the badminton events between July 27 and August 5 while Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Mirabai Chanu will be in action in the women’s 49kg weightlifting competition on August 7.
The boxing events are scheduled between July 27 and August 10. It will be the Olympic debut of two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen and Tokyo bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain.
Indian athletes are due to compete in archery, athletics, badminton, boxing, equestrian, golf, hockey, judo, rowing, sailing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, and tennis at Paris 2024.
The aim will be to better the record haul of seven medals, including one gold, won in Tokyo 2020 at Paris 2024.
