Outrage over costly pre-surgery tests in Delhi NCR private hospitals
The high cost of pre-surgery tests in private hospitals across Delhi NCR is causing widespread distress among patients, who find the expenses increasingly unaffordable. Simple tests that cost only a few hundred rupees at private labs are priced at thousands in private hospitals, adding a significant financial burden to those already struggling with health issues.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!“It’s outrageous,” said Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Noida. “A test that costs just a few hundred rupees outside is billed at thousands in these hospitals. It feels like they are more interested in our money than our health.”
Patients like Kumar often find themselves jumping from one hospital to another in search of more affordable and better-quality care. “I had to change hospitals three times,” said Sunita Sharma from Greater Noida. “Each one demanded that I get all my tests done again, costing me a fortune. And the doctors seem more interested in my insurance policy than my actual medical needs.”
In Delhi and Gurgaon, similar stories are unfolding. “I was shocked when I saw the bill for my pre-surgery tests,” said Anjali Verma from Gurgaon. “It was almost as much as the surgery itself. Why is there no one regulating these prices?”
The lack of oversight by state and central government authorities has only added to the frustration. Currently, there is no effective mechanism to monitor and regulate the pricing practices of private hospitals in Delhi NCR. This absence of checks and balances has allowed hospitals to charge exorbitant fees unchecked, leaving patients with little recourse.
“Why aren’t government authorities stepping in to check these rates and practices?” questioned Deepak Singh, a patient from Delhi. “We are already dealing with health issues. We shouldn’t have to fight to find affordable care.”
As the situation worsens, there are increasing calls for government intervention to regulate the rates and practices of private hospitals, ensuring that medical care remains accessible and affordable for all.
A Delhi-based private employee said, “When I took my mother to a private hospital in Noida, the first thing the doctor asked me was whether I had an insurance policy. After that, the medical tests performed there were too costly. A test that would cost you Rs 10k would cost you Rs 15-16K in these hospitals even more expensive in some cases. Where do people get that kind of money? There are no checks on these private hospitals and their bills.”
