Relief and rescue teams have since arrived, diligently evacuating passengers from the overturned North East Express coaches. Many are being assisted with the use of ladders. The official statement from the Railways was issued late Wednesday night. The CPRO of Northern Railway confirmed that some coaches of train number 12506 North East Express, en route from Anand Vihar Terminal to Kamakhya, derailed near Raghunathpur station in the Danapur division at 21:35.

As of late in the night, it is estimated that four individuals have lost their lives in this tragic event, and more than 70 people are reported to be injured. However, official figures were not disclosed at the time of reporting. It has been relayed that the train was traveling at approximately 120 kilometers per hour when the incident occurred. Due to the LHB coaches, the carriages did not collide, potentially averting a much graver outcome.

Media reports suggest that Buxar District Magistrate Anshul Aggarwal stated late at night that roughly 60 to 70 injured passengers have been transported to hospitals. Villagers have played a vital role in aiding the ongoing rescue operation. The initial stages of rescue were challenged by the darkness at the incident site, with torchlight being employed to extract individuals trapped in the coaches. Subsequently, the authorities arranged for generators and lights, enhancing the rescue efforts.

Responding to the situation in Buxar, Bhojpur District Officer Rajkumar explained that upon receiving the alert, they dispatched 15 ambulances, along with 4-5 buses and an SDRF team from Bhojpur.

Three ambulances have been stationed at the station to tend to patients, and preparations have been made at Sadar Hospital, including the cancellation of leave for doctors. Physicians from Patna, the capital of Bihar, are being recalled, and AIIMS Patna has been placed on standby.
